What is your daycare/aftercare solution?
My Mother watches Pearce 5 days a week. It was important to us that our son had the opportunity to be with family members during the day. Fortunately, we live close to our entire family so were able to facilitate this thanks to my mom. The relationship that Pearce and my mother have is irreplaceable.
What do you think is the biggest challenge of being an executive mother?
By far the biggest challenge of work and family is keeping up your energy level when you get home from work so you can spend quality time with your children. I don't think it's fair to deprive Pearce of my attention when I get home just because I'm tired from a long day at the office. Now that I am pregnant, I have to work harder at finding that last bit of energy.
What is your favorite quality time activity with your child/children?
Peace loves being outside. Fortunately living in Florida allows us to spend a lot of time outdoors. Our favorite thing to do together is go to the park and play on the swings.
He also loves going to the local mall where they have a carousel and electric train. It makes me so happy to see him having fun on the rides. We try to go there once a week.
What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you while balancing work and family?
I brought Pearce to the office one day and he solved 4 major departmental challenges (just kidding).
How do you make time for yourself?
My husband is very good at helping me do this. He insists that we go out on Saturday nights together alone or with friends. I also have a few things that are penciled in my calendar every month. This forces me to take the time to do them. Such as manicures, hair appointments, lunch with friends, shopping with my Mom and sister, etc. I have found that the only way I will make time for myself is if I actually make an appointment and put it into my schedule.
What do you do with your free time?
I spend a lot of my spare time with Pearce. He is at such a wonderful age that there is nothing as fun as being with him. Just listening to him learn new words and new expressions can keep me entertained for hours. We spend a lot of time with our families.
