Shed the extra winter weight
According to the May Clinic Health Letter, here are some ways to cut calories and lose weight:
Eat Smaller Portions. Cut your portion size of red meat from 8 ounces to 3 ounces and save 250 to 300 calories. A 3-ounce serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards.
Use healthful cooking methods such as baking, broiling, grilling, poaching, roasting and steaming.
Increase your activity. These activities each burn off about 150 calories: gardening for 30 to 45 minutes, walking 2 miles in 30 minutes, and bicycling 5 miles in 30 minutes. If it's too cold outside, try walking on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike.
Ways around the time crunch
As a working mother you are always feeling the short on time, so you will have to find creative ways to squeeze in exercise.
Find ways to incorporate exercise into your day. Even if you can't find 30 minutes at one time you can still find ways to increase your activity. Try these suggestions:
Take the stairs instead of the elevator
Park farther away from the building so you can walk more
Try doing butt squeezes while reading email
Try a high intensity activity like jumping rope and you will burn 110 calories in 10 minutes.
