Starting a BusinessQ: Dear Sandi,I am currently working in a call center position that is very stressful. My hours change on a monthly basis, making it hard to plan ahead on vacations or other family activities. I have read many books on starting my own business, although, I do not have excellent credit or the money to get started. This is a dream and goal that I've had since I was a child. I've heard that it might be cheaper to start an online business, and at the same time, I can be home for my family when needed. Can you offer any assistance or guidance for my situation? Thank You! Jennifer
A:
Dear Jennifer, First, you need your business idea. Think about things you are passionate about - children, adoption, the weather, shoes…whatever it is it should be interesting to you and might even contain a sense of mission. Second, put together a business plan and research the resources you need to start the business. In order to understand business planning and financing look for entrepreneurial publications and web sites that give you how-to guides. Also, contact the local chapter of various women in business groups and start seeking contacts and guidance. Starting a business takes work, but the process can be tremendously rewarding. Even if the business never took off, my bet is you would find yourself involved in some projects and communities that will bring you to where you want to be.
