In the Car

Question: I travel 30 miles, to and from work, with my 15 month old (daycare is in same town). I drive most of the way with one hand in the backseat handing him books! I tried a lap tray, but our carseat doesn't come with a "bar" so the tray lays on his legs (no good!) What can I use so that he can access his books, drink, snack, without me? Remember, he can't reach far. Thanks!
Anne

Answer: Anne, I highly recommend using a narrow milk-crate holder to sit beside your little one. These plastic crates come in all heights and widths, are plastic for easy cleaning and very durable. Some of them are open on the side so that you can strap them in with a seatbelt, while others are long and narrow to keep them from being top heavy. If you don't want them to slide around too much during travel, consider placing Velcro(tm) underneath, or place on a towel.

This stores books of all sizes, sippy cup, a travel-size Magnadoodle(tm), and will also give you a play to house all those kids' meal toys as they are accumulated in the coming days! Tip: rotate toys and books so that your son will have a fresh supply of material to choose from. And don't hesitate to grab that box of goodies as you enter a crowded restaurant, sit in a busy waiting room, or go to Grandma's.

Happy motoring!
