Weight Loss Plateau

Q. I’ve been exercising regularly for about a year and a half, and have lost 25 pounds. But it seems I reached a plateau. I still have another 10 pounds until I reach my goal weight and I haven’t lost anything in 3 months. Do you have any suggestions to rev up my weight loss?
- Joyce D.

A. First I would like to encourage you. Weight loss plateaus are a natural part of working out so please don’t get discouraged.

Now, check your diet. Are you consuming more fat and calories then you really think you are? Diet logs are helpful in tracking what you eat every day. Are you skipping meals? If so, you could actually be slowing down your metabolism causing you to burn fewer calories each day.

Finally, add variety to your workouts to challenge your body. If you have been doing the same routine for months, your body has no reason to change.
